The cattery
The Mayrig Cattery is a small family operation dedicated to Turkish Vans (TUV). Established originally in Alsace, the cattery moved eight years later to Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
After owning many house cats over the years, we started looking into pure-bred ones. That way we discovered Turkish Angoras, that we breed under the Loup Noir name, before stumbling on their Turkish Van cousins.
At first, our Turkish Vans came from France, but later the family got bigger and added members from Italy and Austria.
Mayrig means “mom” in Armenian. It calls back to where this magnificent breed comes from. At the same time, it is a tribute to the eponymous and beautiful movie from Henri Verneuil.
